Why We Exist

Independent creators need space to share unfinished work, gather feedback, and find collaborators beyond online channels

Adelaide's game development community is vibrant and growing, but independent creators often work in isolation. Online forums and social media offer reach, but they can't replace the immediacy and depth of in-person conversation.

Adelaide Indie Showcase fills this gap by creating regular, accessible events where developers can demo works-in-progress, playtest with real players, and receive constructive feedback in real time. We celebrate experimental ideas, narrative innovation, and technical ambition without the pressure of commercial polish.

For emerging developers, our events provide a low-stakes introduction to the local scene and a chance to learn by observing more experienced creators. For veterans, it's an opportunity to mentor, collaborate, and stay connected to Adelaide's evolving creative ecosystem.

We believe that great games emerge from communities that support risk-taking, honest critique, and mutual respect. Our showcases embody these values, offering a space where every voice matters and every prototype deserves attention.

How Showcases Work

Quarterly events at accessible venues across Adelaide's inner suburbs

Event Structure

Each showcase runs for three hours and follows a flexible format designed to maximize interaction and feedback:

  • Demo stations where developers set up laptops, controllers, and displays
  • Structured playtesting rounds with guided feedback forms
  • Open discussion sessions for design challenges and technical questions
  • Informal networking time with refreshments and conversation

What Developers Bring

Creators arrive with playable builds—no matter how rough—and a willingness to share their process. We encourage:

  • Early prototypes testing a single mechanic or concept
  • Vertical slices showcasing narrative or visual direction
  • Near-complete projects seeking final polish feedback
  • Experimental or non-commercial interactive experiences

What Attendees Experience

Players and fellow developers rotate through stations, trying games and offering perspectives. Everyone leaves with new ideas, contacts, and a deeper appreciation for the craft behind independent games.
